Doctor denied the right amend complaint to join pregnancy and disability claims with discrimination suit

Dr. Ndidi Okeke was pursuing a discrimination claim against Detroit Medical Center and Wayne State.  She did not originally join a disability claim arising out of her pregnancy, and sought to amend her Complaint to add that theory of liability.  Despite long-standing policy that such requests should be "liberally granted" if they won't result in undue delay, the Court of Appeals upheld the trial judge's refusal to allow amendment.  It ruled that Okeke knew of her claim during the discovery period [presumably the Defendant did, also] and therefore it was not an abuse of discretion to deny the right to amend.
