CPSC reports on toy injuries
The head of the CPSC reported yesterday that there were 186,000 toy-related emergency room visits during 2009, compared with 152,000 in 2005. The Agency also received reports of 12 toy-related deaths in 2009, compared with 15 in 2008. During the two prior years, the agency received reports of twice as many deaths each year. The number of toy-related recalls was down from 50 in 2009 to 45 in 2010. The Agency stressed the importance of purchasing age-appropriate toys and providing safe surroundings for play.
