FDA determines drug research firm faked results
Reuters reported on July 27 that contractor Cetero Research has faked documents and manipulated samples in research it performed on pharmaceuticals. An series of studies and audits reportedly uncovered "significant instances of misconduct and violations." The North Carolina firm was guilty of a pattern of misuse in research for several drugmakers during the period 2005-2010. The lack of integrity in Cetero's research places in question the quality of research supporting drug applications by the involved drug makers, who were not identified. Despite the lack of integrity and control in the drug approval process, the State of Michigan provides complete immunity for drug-makers whose pharmaceuticals are approved by the FDA. Michigan is the only state that grants this immunity.
