Federal Court overturns jury verdict for welder

This week the Sixth Circuit threw out a verdict that awarded damages to a welder who claimed he developed Manganese-induced Parkinsonism through exposure to the mineral in welding supplies.  He had sued several welding supplies manufacturers for negligence, strict liability and failure to warn.  Three judges of the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals overturned the verdict, holding that the doctor who testified confirming the welder's diagnosis did not have adequate scientific support for his diagnosis.  The case is Tamraz v. Lincoln Electric Company, et al.
