Verdict against Henry Ford Hospital will be reduced

This week a jury awarded 1.2 million dollars to Valerija Milosevic, after she was badly burned at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital.  She had been admitted to the hospital after a heart attack.  She fell out of bed and suffered facial fractures and a deep cut.  In treating the cut, a hospital resident used a thermal cautery device too near her oxygen, causing a fire and severe burns.  The judge has indicated that he will apply the "cap" on malpractice awards to reduce the woman's verdict to less than half what it would be if the case were considered "ordinary negligence."  On Thursday, a hospital representative told the Detroit News that it "respects the verdict."  I'm sure that's true, since they won't have to pay it and have secured the judge's agreement to reduce it.
